Kicking off the TANGO Behind the Scenes series with a project partner Université Paris Cité. We spoke to CNRS Research Director, Wim De Neys about his role, and the role of UPC within the TANGO project.

Thank you for speaking to us today. Could you start by introducing yourself and telling us where you are based?

I’m Wim De Neys, cognitive psychologist and CNRS Research Director affiliated with the Université Paris Cité.

How would you describe TANGO with three words only?

Psychology, computer science, and field studies.

What is your main task in the TANGO project?

I’m the team leader of Work Package 1,  dealing with, Cognitive foundations of mutual understanding
and decision making. And I try to look at the intuitive and deliberate nature of trust decisions among humans and when interacting with algorithms.

How do your professional interests match the objectives of TANGO?

I’m generally interested in the interaction between more intuitive and deliberate cognitive processes.

What makes your organisation ideal for participating in the research/activities of TANGO?

We are a leading team in the dual process field that examines intuitive and deliberate cognitive processes.
